We have raised £400 over Easter for new carpets for a women’s refuge. A local flooring company (Gainsborough Flooring, Preston) very kindly donated all the flooring and fitting free of charge. Therefore we were able to buy a couple of new beds for the children who will reside there. Making the refuge more comfortable will enable a more secure and safe place for families fleeing domestic violence.
Our 3rd annual Christmas Day lunch at Chorley cricket Club for people usually alone. We had 47 lovely guests and sent out around ten lunches to guests who were too ill to attend. Again, thanks so much to all our volunteers, chefs, servers, drivers… a fabulous day was had by all.
Women’s Refuge hedge cutting
It doesn’t really sound like much but cutting the (massive) hedge made the garden safer and made more space for the children to play. If a Women’s Refugee is more comfortable and a nicer place to be, women fleeing domestic violence are less likely to return to an abusive partner.
